This guy is a modern day Ron Swanson. Wait. Ron Swanson is modern day. This dad is a modern day “guy who doesn’t take shit” and a new idol of mine.
William Merideth claims that the drone was first spotted hovering over his neighbor’s house—a claim his neighbor confirms—and he had no intentions of taking any actions against it until it entered onto his own property. Merideth’s 16-year-old daughter was laying out by their pool at the time, and when the drone pilot decided to stop his vehicle and get an electronic eyeful, he decided enough was enough.
Honey. Get my gun. It’s drone season.
“It was just right there. It was hovering. I would never have shot it if it was flying,” William Merideth said in an interview with Ars Technica. “When he came down with a video camera right over my back deck, that’s not going to work.”
Did anyone else picture him saying “that’s not going to work” right before he filled the drone full of hot lead? Yeah, me too. HOW AWESOME IS THAT!
After the one-sided firefight, the drone pilot and his cronies arrived at Merideth’s property. “If you cross that sidewalk onto my property, there’s going to be another shooting,” Merideth says he told the men.
THIS GUY IS LIKE A MODERN DAY CLINT EASTWOOD! Ok, Clint is still kind-of modern day. THIS GUY IS LIKE A NEW VERSION OF THE OLD VERSION OF A GUY WHO WOULD SHOOT DOWN EXPENSIVE TOYS AND SAY COOL THINGS LIKE HE’S IN A MOVIE!
The cops showed up and charged Clint Swanson first-degree criminal mischief and first-degree wanton endangerment. The drone’s owners then came forward with the drone’s flight data showing the drone didn’t come as close as Merideth claims. The altercation is still under investigation. Hopefully it all gets cleared up before this becomes a movie I’d TOTALLY watch.
